The first part to be built for every smart that rolled off the production line was the tridion safety cell. This was manufactured by Magna-Steyr at 'smartville' in Hambach, France. As the tridions are completed, they are etched with a series of numbers which allow you to trace when the car was passing through production. Lift up the carpet in the boot and you will see a series of numbers in front of the engine lid. The first six digits represent the date in the format: YY,MM,DD. The following digits are the sequential number of tridions made that particular year from the 1st January.
