Following our well publicised fortwo to Roadster engine conversion, one small problem that was encountered was the fuel level readout. The roadster electronics could not provide an accurate readout for the actual amount of fuel in the fortwo fuel tank.

We found this was because the potentiometers on the fuel level senders are different between the roadster and the fortwo. The pictures below show the differences between the two. It can be seen that the potentiometer on the roadster fuel sender provides a higher resolution readout compared with the fortwo.

A fuel level sender for a Roadster was purchased and fitted within the fortwo's tank to resolve the problem. The float and arm from the fortwo fuel level sender was transferred to the roadster sender to adjust for the differences in fuel tank shape.

The fortwo sender is the one on the left, slightly discoloured.
